Niantic Announces Pokémon GO Fest For 2018

Though the mania surrounding Pokémon GO has calmed down substantially since the original release two years ago, there is still a dedicated fan base following the games updates and events. That fanbase now has something exciting to look forward to this summer.

In 2017, Niantic held their largest Pokémon GO event and called it Pokémon GO Fest. It was…disappointing. The event was widely believed to be a complete disaster with fans complaining about long wait times and overloaded servers. The backlash was strong enough that the company was forced to offer refunds to those who attended as well as awarding them in game currency.

It looks like Niantic hasn’t been deterred by the events of the past. In a blog post today, the company announced the return of Pokémon GO Fest. It will once again be held in Chicago this year on July 14 and 15. Single day tickets will be available on the website for just $20 on May 11 so mark your calendars now.

As a matter of fact, single day tickets is all that will be available this year. NianticIndigo, a member of the support team on Reddit, confirmed in a thread today that people will not be able to purchase tickets for both days of the event. However, both days will be essentially the same. “This is to allow more players to have a chance at participating in this event,” they went on to explain.

The announcement describes Pokémon GO Fest: A Walk In The Park as an event that “will offer a unique, immersive play experience unseen anywhere else that will create a daylong adventure,” and “include exclusive activities for Trainers of all ages.” The outdoor festivities will take place in Lincoln Park and will include a 1.8 mile walking path for attendees to explore.

In addition to the upcoming festivities stateside, the post also announced an upcoming Safari Zone event for European trainers. Dortmund, Germany will host the event on June 30 and July 1. The celebration will allow locals and tourists alike to explore the towns culture and history while catching Pokémon.

Pokémon GO is available now on iOS and Android.
