Some new information has been released about the next installation in the Saints Row series. According to IGN, the publisher Koch Media has stated that the next Saints Row game will be officially announced in 2020. Little more is known at this time however, the company behind Saints Row THQ Nordic has stated in an interim report that the game is in “deep development“.
Just last Thursday, gamesindustry.biz spoke with the Koch Media CEO Klemens Kundratitz who promised that the next Saint’s Row installation would not be like Agent’s of Mayhem. Klemens stated that “The two games are similar, for sure, but they’re also completely different. With Volition, we have the creators of all the Saints Row games as an internal studio and they’re not going to be distracted by anything else from creating our next game under this important franchise.” This seems to imply that Volition will only be working on the next Saints Row until it is released. Kundratitz also promised that “Saints Row is very close to our hearts, and we’ll talk about it next year. For the time being, we just wanted to get the word out that it’s coming and it’s going to be great.”
In the gamesindustry.biz interview, Kundratitz stated that the company doesn’t intend to go beyond what the company already is. “We need to stay where we are — we’re a publisher, developer, content creator that makes content for gamers. We’re not mass market like FIFA. Deep Silver is a gamer brand and we need to deliver on our RPGs, open-world action games, shooters. That’s where we’re at home.” This seems to imply that the company doesn’t intend to expand beyond where the company is at presently. This can be further supported by Kundratitz statement that, “Yes, we can do things better and we can grow our franchises, that’s certainly what our intention is, but to be like Activision? I don’t think that’s our path.” The title and release date for the next Saints Row are currently unknown however, more information will be released in 2020.
