Today, PlayStation has announced PlayStation Tournaments: EVO Lounge, a new live show set to cover everything that happens during this year’s EVO which is set to take place August 5-7. This is in celebration of EVO’s 20th anniversary as one of the most exciting fighting game community tournaments in the world.
EVO 2022 will feature matches in 9 titles. This includes Street Fighter V: Champion Edition, Guilty Gear – Strive, Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate, Tekken 7, The King of Fighters XV, Melty Blood: Type Lumina, Dragonball FighterZ, Granblue Fantasy: Versus, and Skullgirls: 2nd Encore.
The EVO Lounge is a live show dedicated to covering all the competition’s exciting events and content. It will be hosted by players and commentators associated with the FGC.
“The Evo Lounge will feature top-shelf curated show coverage, bracket updates, interviews with players, and exciting content and reveals from developers and publishers, such as Arc System Works, Warner Bros. Games, Capcom, SNK, and Bandai Namco Entertainment, as well as all the latest from the scene with pro players and casters. Viewers will be treated to the latest news for our favorite games and a few sneak peeks of what’s ahead. It’s every spectator’s source for Evo and FGC intel,” Louis Figueroa, Sr. Director, Global Esports and Competitive Gaming, SIE said.
EVO 2022 takes place live in Las Vegas from August 5-7. The EVO Lounge can be viewed on August 5-6, on YouTube and on Twitch.
Following PlayStation’s acquisition of EVO, many were wondering what would come of the event and how it would change. It looks like they are doubling down on one of the things that makes EVO great, the FGC. Fighting games would not be where they are today without the community of players spending their time to mastering a character or the mechanics of a game that they fall in love with, all with the same goal to win their match. It will be interesting to see how big the Lounge gets based on what gets revealed during the show.
It could be something small and niche and just for the FGC or it could be something bigger like the next game from Netherrealm, the developers behind Mortal Kombat and Injustice.
