New Trailer For Lake Ridden Promises Adventures To Be Had and Puzzles To Be Solved

Things start as all good horror games should – with some kids on a camping trip.

Lake Ridden, a new title from developer Midnight Hub, puts players in the heart of a remote forest in Maine while searching for their missing sister. You play as Marie, a 13 year old in the summer of 1988. You have tagged along with your younger sister and her friends as they head off for one final weekend getaway before the summer ends.

Unfortunately, on the second night, a fight causes your sister to run off into the woods and now it is up to you to find her. Explore lush forests and creepy abandoned estates as you solve puzzles to unlock the clues that will lead you to your missing sister.

The company released a trailer yesterday for the upcoming launch with new gameplay footage. Check it out below:

The graphics are absolutely gorgeous in the trailer, and clearly, the designers have built a beautiful world for gamers to explore as they unlock its secrets. However, exploring won’t be their only task as complex puzzles must also be solved to progress through the story.

With a game like this, it’s hard not to make the comparisons to titles like Myst where point-and-click adventure in an unfamiliar world met with mind bending puzzles that kept players guessing. Though with the twist towards horror and suspense, games like Amnesia may be a more apt comparison.

Lake Ridden hopes to walk the line between those two genres. “We want to make a story driven game that widens our definition of a horror game,” a post on the developer’s website reads. With veteran developers from Minecraft and Paradox behind the Swedish studio, it is no surprise that they’ve gone for something ambitious on this outing.

Lake Ridden will be available for Window PC on May 10 on Steam and GOG for $19.99.
