New Sun & Moon Trailer Shows Off New Legendaries And The Rotom Pokédex

We got a healthy dose of Pokémon Sun and Moon info a few weeks ago when Nintendo showed off this generation’s starters and now two weeks before E3 we have a new trailer to droll over.

This trailer focuses more on the new legendary Pokémon, which we previously reported were named Solgaleo and Lunala, and the region we will be exploring this November.

Let’s talk about the new legendaries first. In our previous article, I guessed that they would be Fire and Dark/Flying respectively and  I was wrong on both accounts.

Solgaleo is a Psychic/Steel type with the special move Sunsteel Strike. According to the Pokémon website it is the emissary of the sun and “the beast that devours the sun”. Its body hold massive amounts of energy and has a mane that resembles the sun.

Solgaleo also has the new ability Full Metal Body which negates any stat changes caused by abilities or moves.

Next up is Moon‘s star creature, Lunala which is a Psychic/Ghost type. It’s special move is called Moongeist Beam and has the special ability Shadow Shield. With this ability Lunala will take less damage from attacks if it’s HP is full.

Much like Solgaleo, Lunala is called the emissary of the moon and referred to as the “the beast that calls the moon”. Lunala can absorb energy with its open wings, giving it the look of the night sky.

The trailer also gave us look around Alola region, showing us the many forests, cities, and cliffs we will be running around during our journey.

We also got a brief confirmation that player customization will be back after its absence from Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. Like before, players will get to choose their gender and what skin tone they prefer.

As for the new characters in Sun and Moon we have Professor Kukui, a surfer dude wearing a lab coat.

His mysterious assistant, Lillie, who will have an unknown role in the plot of game. Her section on the website says that she isn’t a fan of making Pokémon fight and prefers “devour” books.

Our best friend and possible rival is named Hau. He is a kind-hearted boy who loves Pokémon and food.

Another new feature in the game is that instead of just carrying around a regular Pokédex, this new one is inhabited by a Rotom, a Pokémon from Diamond & Pearl that has the ability to control electronics.

Aside from Rotom looking cute, the change also has a practical purpose. In the game, the Rotom Pokédex will provide players with helpful tips and info based on who they talk to, as well as record data on other Pokémon.

Players can also share and receive Pokédex entries via scanning QR codes outside of the game.

According to Polygon, Nintendo also announced today that it will be showing off Pokémon Sun and Moon and Pokémon Go during their Tree house event at E3 this year. Sun and Moon will be shown off on June 14th and Go will be streamed the following day.

Pokémon Sun and Moon will be out on November 18th the 3DS, 2DS, and the New 3DS.
