New Star Wars Project In Development

At Pax West, one of the main story creators at Visceral Games, Amy Hennig, talked about the new Star Wars project that is currently in development. Visceral Games is most known for the game Dead Space, but will be the next video game developer that will tackle the creation of the next Star Wars game, coming off the heels of Star Wars: Battlefront.

Even though Hennig talked at length at Pax West about the new Star Wars game, she had to be careful about what she told the people attending the festival, according to Dualshockers.

When I started working on this project, and again, I have to parse myself carefully… I haven’t had anything to drink yet today, which is good because it’s not even noon… So I’m not going to accidentally say anything I don’t think. But the task was to do the same thing that LucasFilm has been doing, and to do it with them.

Hennig did reveal that the goal was to create an “authentic” Star Wars game and go even further than that. The game will tell a new story within the Star Wars universe, but it was not released what the story entails or which players will be a part of the story.

Hennig, who previously created games such as Uncharted and Indiana Jones, noticed that there are similarities and differences between the Uncharted universe and the Star Wars universe. She noted that there is a need to cut away, but the cut aways in Uncharted informed the player about what Nathan Drake is doing, where as cut aways in Star Wars need to be about what the enemy is doing.

Her final reveal of the game said that one of the challenges in make the Star Wars games and movies us featuring a protagonist that is an underdog:

They have to work together and they have to be cleverer than their enemies,” she said. “Therefore, how do you turn that into gameplay. How do you take that idea and then deconstruct it as mechanics, sequences, that then play to that core principle. That’s the challenge of making these kinds of things.

While this is still a project in the marking, DICE is currently working on Star Wars: Battlefront 2 in collaboration with Motive.

I'm a big Pokémon fan, so I'l spend a lot of my time playing that. Other than that, I love sports, particularly the Charlotte Hornets and the Carolina Panthers. No matter how bad the team is, I will always rep them.
