A new game in the Shadowgate series has just been announced. As the last game was released back in 2014, this may come as a surprise to many. What’s even more surprising though is that the game will only be available to those with VR gaming setups. This new installment is being developed by ZOJOI, the same company that developed the first game. The new VR experience, titled, Shadowgate: The Mines Of Mythrok, is going to be released on Oculus Quest, on October 7th, 2021. Along with the announcement, a trailer was released showcasing what players can expect when they jump into this new gaming experience.
The trailer shows the player exploring this living castle and its various different environments all while dodging the traps it has in store. The player can be seen avoiding and attacking enemies, completing puzzles to progress, shielding against magical attacks, climbing and scaling cavernous pits, interacting with the environment by burning banners, and many more events that VR adds to the mix. We even see the player being chased by a giant spider, a scenario that everybody has probably had a nightmare about at least once in their life.
The enemy variety is very vast as well, as we see the aforementioned giant spider throughout the trailer, a dragon, a floating tentacle creature, and even an evil haunted spirit. There seems to be a lot planned for the series, as the subtitle for this game is “Book One Of The Shadowgate Saga“. Seems as though ZOJOI has a lot in mind for what they want to do with the series going forward, especially if this leap to VR is any indication. Overall, this game looks very promising, and VR adds so much to the experience that any gamer with the Oculus Quest should give this game a chance. The dev team is putting a lot of work into making this project the best it can be, and it very clearly shows.
