Earlier this week, the studio behind the Rusty Lake games launched a campaign on Kickstarter in order to raise money for their next game as well as an upcoming short film. The official description for the project is as follows:
We are shooting a short film based on Rusty Lake and also creating the tenth Cube Escape game alongside it! For this special project, we went back to the roots of Rusty Lake, developing a story which takes place in an escape-room setting where anything can happen. This is our most exciting project yet, and for the first time, you can really become part of a Rusty Lake project!
The campaign for the project had a goal of €15,000 and it made that mark in just under 9 hours after it was launched.
Developer Rusty Lake has created nine previous games all of which are quite popular. Their most recent one Rusty Lake Paradise was just released this past March. Regarding the studio’s new project titled Paradox it will be a short film as well as a two chapter long point and click game.
As for the film, it will only be about 15 minutes long and will contain clues that players will be able to make use of within the new game as well as references to previous titles the developer has created. The video will be free for anyone to watch on YouTube as well. In addition to the free video, players will be able to play one chapter of the point and click title for free.
“Both game and movie follow the story of a detective who finds himself trapped in two different universes and needs to escape,” the team said. “The game will uniquely interact with the movie, via television, telephone, tape recorders and so on. We’ve carefully placed a ton of visual hints hidden in the movie which can be used in the game.”
The developer has stated that the game will stick to the core values of the series which involves a variety of items, puzzles, as well as multiple endings. The game is set to release this Summer in August for both Steam and itch.io.
