New Resident Evil Showcase Shows off New Gameplay for Requiem

Today, CAPCOM gave fans a new showcase of the highly anticipated Resident Evil Requiem. Within the showcase, details are given about the story, history, and design philosophy surrounding the game. In addition, fans had the chance to see many of the unique gameplay elements that have been teased for the game in full effect.

The showcase begins with an introduction to the game’s director, Koshi Nakanishi, who explains that the project began as an attempt to bring Leon into a more traditional horror experience. The developers ultimately decided to expand the formula rather than simply change it, so they decided on allowing players to control both Leon and Grace, each of whom would face challenges in ways unique to them. As a result, the game will double as both a horror and tense action game. Specifically, Grace’s gameplay segments are inspired by the gameplay in Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 7, forcing players to choose whether or not they can afford to fight an enemy. She will have access to a special gun called the Requiem, a limited-use weapon for emergencies. Later on, fans get a look at Leon’s gameplay. Players will be able to target specific areas on zombies to hurt them in specific ways, with a special emphasis on gun combat.

Fans also got a closer look at the story the game has to offer following the reveal of Leon as a playable character during The Game Awards. Leon will be returning as he was following the events of Resident Evil 6, fighting bioterrorism organizations. The zombies are also expanded on, giving many unique characteristics that mirror what the living person did during their life. Analyzing and understanding how the zombies behave will allow players to gain an advantage either during combat or while sneaking. Nakanishi also hints that Leon knows something about the death of Grace’s mother.

The showcase ends with a look at many of the products related to the game. Resident Evil Requiem is set to release on February 27th.
