New Prey Gameplay Trailer Revealed at Gamescom 2016

Bethesda Softworks has released new gameplay trailer for the upcoming hybrid action shooter, Prey. This is the second gameplay trailer; the first one was shown off at Quakecon 2016. This iteration of Prey will be Bethesda’s original take on the 2006 first person shooter, which was discussed earlier this year. The premise for this version puts the character in control of the gender neutrally named, Morgan Yu. Morgan is the subject of experiments that are an attempt at improving upon human beings. The player awakens aboard the Talos I in the year 2032 and must explore the ship to discover what secrets are hiding within the seemingly desolate space station. All the while, the player must fight off aliens that have taken control of the space station. The player must use what they have at their disposal, which includes weapons, various gadgets, and super human abilities to fight off the alien threat and ultimately survive. The new gameplay teaser for Prey can be seen below.

The trailer showcases some of the weaponry and abilities that will be a part of Prey as well as the ambiance for the game’s setting. Two of the main weapons/weaponized abilities shown off in this gameplay showcase are the “Glue Gun” and the “Superthermal” ability. The “Glue Gun” freezes the enemies in place which is then followed up by the use of the “Superthermal” ability to blow up multiple enemies in one shot. The trailer then displays the player ability to “Mimic Matter.” The player uses this ability to transform themselves into a coffee mug in order to fit into a small space and progress further in the game. After this the exterior to the space station is shown. The player briefly floats through the remains scattered around the outside of the sizeable Talos I. The atmosphere feels lonely in the way that only the setting of deep space can. All of this is rather cinematic, drawing on the zeitgeist of films like Alien or Gravity.

Prey is due out in 2017 and will be available on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
