Overwatch is adding yet another hero to their massive roster, revealed yesterday in an initial announcement trailer in the form of an anime-style video. However, another trailer for the hero was released earlier today, this one focused particularly on the gameplay of the new hero. From abilities, play style, team role, and more, here’s some of what was shown in the gameplay trailer for Overwatch‘s upcoming hero named D.Mon:
From a first look at the trailer itself, she will be a melee-based tank with a sword and board fighting style, with some of her abilities mixing up her combat loop beyond slashing and blocking. Her primary attack will be with her sword, and she’ll have access to a shield to block incoming projectiles, similar to Reinhardt. However, her trailer also shows off a dash that she’ll have access to, which looks a lot like D.Va’s. D.Mon was also shown to be able to use this dash while keeping her shield up, and will be able to follow the boost up with an attack with her sword.
D.Mon will also be able to attack enemy heroes from afar with a wrist-mounted gun, which was shown to be used as a tool to stop her opponents from running away from her unscathed. D.Mon takes yet another page out of D.Va’s book, as when D.Mon is eliminated in the trailer, she’s shown to eject from her mech and take the fight on her own. And of course, she’ll be able to reenter her mech after some time. D’mon’s ultimate looks like a large AoE slash that places a debuff on her opponents, likely similar to Zenyatta’s Orb of Discord based off the color of said debuff.
With all of what was shown, D.Mon is shaping up to be a pretty formidable tank to go up against. Between her melee brawling style and her ability to eject from her mech, she looks like quite the combination between Reinhardt and D.Va. D.Mon will be joining the Overwatch roster on August 11th of this year, and based off her performance in the trailer, it’s likely that the game’s tank mains will be having a lot of fun playing as her.
