New Oddworld: Soulstorm Storms Onto PS5 with Latest Announcement Trailer

Announced during the Playstation5 reveal event, the creator of the Oddworld Series Lorne Lanning revealed the first teaser trailer for the newest Oddworld: Soulstorm coming to the PS4 and new PS5. Following the protagonist Abe, as he becomes the beacon of hope in order to incite revolution and uncover the mysteries of Brew, the game picks up where Oddworld: New ‘n’ Tasty left off. The trailer showcases the familiar side-scrolling mechanics of previous games in the series, with updated graphics that show off the PS5’s processing power. No official release date has been announced for the new game yet, but it is likely that the title will be releasing sometime soon after the PS5’s release during the holiday of 2020.

According to the Playstation official Youtube Channel, Oddworld: Soulstorm “represents a big visual and cinematic leap aiming that breaks new ground for Oddworld. With intelligent new mechanics and twisted new devices which enable highly explosive deviousness. This is a dark parable that tells an epic tale of a volatile society pushed to its limits.” The trailer follows the protagonist Abe as he progresses through the amber-colored desert world of Brew, looting, and scavenging for anything he can acquire in order to build new weapons and tools. Players will have the ability to choose how they play the game and progress, whether they want Abe to sneak through areas using stealth and problem solving, or fight through the hordes of enemies with an arsenal personally created by the player. The Playstation developer’s blog for the game details how the looting will work, “based on the concept of Scavenger’s Economy, you will loot from trash cans, pickpocket, and search through lockers for items to craft into weapons and tools to use to help save your fellow Mudokons while you try to unlock the dark secrets behind Brew.”
