New Lord of The Rings Game Announced By Private Division and Wētā Workshop

Lord of The Rings fans can expect a new interactive experience soon. Earlier today Private Division, a video game publisher and subsidiary of Take-Two Interactive Software, announced that new Lord of The Rings video game is in the works on Twitter. This new project will be in collaboration with Wētā Workshop, a special effects company based in New Zealand, most known for their work in the The Lord of the Rings film trilogy. Following the tweet, Private Division continued in a press release, expressing their excitement of the collaboration and a what fans can expect from the upcoming game.

“We are thrilled to partner with Wētā Workshop to publish a game set in such an extraordinary and celebrated universe,” said Michael Worosz, Chief Strategy Officer, Take-Two Interactive, and Head of Private Division. “The Lord of the Rings IP is home to so many remarkable stories, and no entity is better equipped than the team at Wētā Workshop to create a distinctive, new Middle-earth gaming experience.”

Private Division couldn’t have a better partner in this new endeavor. Along with Wētā Workshop’s experience within the Lord of The Ring’s trilogy, the special effects company has a game studio of its own since 2014. And, according to the press release, Middle-earth Enterprises provided Wētā Workshop with the broadest creative license to interpret the underlying lore of the books. Meaning that this new game is likely to go in any direction the developers choose. Wētā Workshop expressed their excitement in the press release.

“It’s a privilege to create a new game set in Middle-earth, especially one that’s so different from what fans have played previously,” said Amie Wolken, Head of Interactive at Wētā Workshop. “As fans ourselves, we’re excited for gamers to explore Middle-earth in a way they never have before, and introduce new fans to the magic of The Lord of the Rings.”

Unfortunately no more details for the game were available however, according to Private Division, it’s expected to launch during Take-Two’s Fiscal Year 2024.

Caitlyn Taylor: New media and entertainment have been apart of my life since I was very young, and I don't think that interest will ever go away. When I'm bored, I immerse myself in lore videos no matter the length.
