Gamescom 2019 is here and before the show officially opens, Geoff Keighley, host of The Game Awards kicked off with Gamescom Opening Night Live. At this presentation, more than 15 game publishers premiered new content and announcements. Here is everything that was announced during Gamescom Opening Night Live.
A new look at the Campaign of Gears 5 was revealed. Rod Ferguson, Studio Head of The Coalition went on stage and shared a little bit of information about the story. Gears 5 will be a two-sided story where one side will focus on the war that has come back to the world of Sera. The other side will focus on Kate and her personal journey. The new Horde mode was also briefly talked about. Next, Comanche was announced. It is a multiplayer shooter that has players pilot helicopters and drones. There will be an opportunity for players to sign up and experience the game early in Alpha, Beta, and Early Access.
DCL: The Game was announced. It is the official simulator of the Drone Champions League which is the world’s leading Drone Racing series. The recently announced Need For Speed Heat shared the first gameplay details of the game. A new app for the game was also revealed where players will be able to customize their cars before transferring them into the game.
Kerbal Space Program 2 was announced. It is the sequel to the acclaimed space flight simulation game. Build a space program, construct powerful spacecraft, design resource-gathering colonies, and much more to uncover the secrets of the galaxy. A plethora of exciting new features will captivate veteran and returning players, as well as usher in a whole new wave of Kerbonauts to the ingenious and comedic world that has entertained millions of players. Little Nightmares II, a sequel to the acclaimed puzzle-platformer was announced. It follows Six and new character Mono as they make their way to the Signal Tower which will play a central role in the story according to Dave Mervik, the senior narrative designer.
The first gameplay of Predator: Hunting Grounds was released. A new look at one of the creatures you’ll be fighting in Monster Hunter Icebourne was shared. The Cycle, an FPS that will incorporate PvEvP in a new way was announced. It is available to try on the Epic Games Store. The trailer for Episode 4 of Life is Strange 2 was revealed and will be released later in the week on August 22. Humankind was announced and will be releasing in 2020. It is a Historical Strategy game where the entire narrative of humankind will be rewritten by you.
New information about Borderlands 3, specifically the endgame was shared. Circle of Slaughter is returning. It is a mode where you have to try and survive waves of enemies. The longer you survive, the better the reward. Proving Grounds was also announced. In this mode, you take on missions and have optional objectives you complete. The more objectives you complete, the better the loot you’ll be rewarded with. Everspace 2, a new independent game was announced; A new trailer for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Complete Edition for the Nintendo Switch was revealed; the game will be released on October 15, 2019.
More information about Volta football for FIFA 20 was revealed including a look at the story mode for Volta. Disintegration, a new game from the co-creator of Halo was announced. It is an FPS with real-time tactic elements blended throughout the gameplay. Players will play a pilot that uses a hovering vehicle equipped with offensive and defensive capabilities and can command units on the ground. A new trailer for Darksiders: Genesis was released; an in-depth look at Guilt, a game releasing exclusively on Stadia was shared and discussed.
Remothered: Broken Porcelain was announced. The sequel to Tormented Fathers, Broken Porcelain will put players at the Ashburn Inn where you must scavenge and adapt to your surroundings to survive. The game will introduce new gameplay and storytelling elements that will breathe new life into the characters and an unprecedented level of immersion. New details about the next season of Destiny 2: Shadowkeep were revealed including that the next season, Season of the Undying will bring the Vex back preparing for war. Magic The Gathering: Arena will be available on the Epic Games Store this winter; Erica, an FMV interactive thriller PlayStation 4 exclusive was announced and it is available now.
A new update on Anno 1800 was shared with news of new content and free updates coming to the game. Players can play Anno 1800 for free until August 25. Port Royale 4 will have players taking on the role of a governor of a colony as you learn what it takes to manage and grow settlements into cities. Iron Harvest is a real-time strategy game set in an alternate reality of 1920+ where players can control giant dieselpunk mechs. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is having an open alpha weekend only on PlayStation 4 featuring its new 2v2 Gunfight on five maps starting on August 23.
Lastly, Hideo Kojima provided a new look at Death Stranding with two cutscenes introducing Mama and Deadman. New gameplay was also revealed. The gameplay featured several new elements such as Geoff Keighley who will provide the body of a character. Keighley plays a side character that may provide Sam Bridges useful things if the player chooses to seek out Keighley’s character or not. The introduction of the character seems to intoduce a delievery quest mechanic that may or may not be central to the main goal of the game which Kojima said was to reconnect the world. The gameplay segment also introduced a new mechanic that requires players to “rock the baby” using the motion controls of the Dualshock 4.
