New Lego Dimensions Expansions Include Adventure Time and Sonic the Hedgehog

A new trailer was released for the next line of toys for LEGO Dimensions, the toys-to-life online multiplayer LEGO game.  LEGO Dimensions already has a wide variety of characters from several properties like The Lord of the Rings, The Simpsons, and DC comics, but this trailer includes even more franchises you never knew you wanted in LEGO form.

The new franchises we see in the trailer are Ghostbusters 2016, E.T. The Extraterrestrial, Mission: Impossible, Harry Potter, The Goonies, Adventure Time, The A-Team, Gremlins, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Teen Titans GO!, and Sonic the Hedgehog.  In PR statement from Lego, other upcoming franchises that weren’t in the trailer include The Powerpuff Girls, Beetlejuice, Knight Rider, and LEGO City Undercover.  I don’t know if this is the greatest roster in videogame history, but it’s definitely up there.

From the PR statement, the new lineup of LEGO Dimensions packs “will launch on September 27, 2016 with the Ghostbusters story pack, Adventure Time and Mission: Impossible Level Packs, Harry Potter and Adventure Time Team Packs, and The A-Team Fun Pack.”  More sets based on the franchises mentioned before will be released in waves until summer of next year.  Unlike Disney Infinity, the original LEGO Dimensions starter pack can be used with all the new figures.

LEGO Dimensions has seen some great success since it launched in September 2015.  LEGO Dimensions has an advantage over other toys-to-life figures like Skylanders and Amiibo because the figures are actual LEGOs you can play with outside of the game.  I’m sure there are plenty of people who buy a LEGO Dimension set and don’t even have the game.  Either way, I’m definitely picking up a Sonic the Hedgehog LEGO.
