After several accessory manufacturers circulated potential mockups of the final hardware, a new leaker has more new details to share, including the name, how it will feature a more powerful dock, and how the new magnetic joy-cons will eliminate stick-drift, one of the biggest issues of Nintendo Switch.

According to Redditor named “NextHandheld”, who says to have seen and touched an actual retail unit, the Nintendo Switch successor will be called Nintendo Switch 2. The Verge reports that they believe NextHandheld’s information to be correct. The Verge has reportedly seen two photos of the Nintendo Switch 2 dock and a photo of the inside of a controller rail that’s covered in certification logos with the copper contacts exposed and a look at the new metal kickstand. The photo of the dock has the same logo as the original Nintendo Switch with the addition of the number 2.
NextHandheld’s source has heard the Nintendo Switch 2 might be officially announced as soon as January.
We’ve already learned that the new joy-cons will be very different from the original as they will be magnetically attached. NextHandheld has added that the new Nintendo Switch 2 joy-cons will have magnetic hall effect joysticks which don’t contain the same deteriorating sensor material and can be recalibrated easily which means that they won’t have “joy-con drift”, one of the biggest issues of the Nintendo Switch.

In addition to the new joy-cons, a larger screen, and more, Nintendo Switch 2 will have a different U-shaped kickstand as compared to the original. The same design can be seen in case manufacturers images.
Nintendo Switch 2’s dock will be more powerful than the original. Nexthandheld says the the dock is rated for 60W and the Switch 2 itself is rated for 45W. Both are higher than the original’s 39W charger for both dock and handheld modes. Handheld mode only provided up to 18W.
