New Job Listings Suggest Starfield and The Elder Scrolls VI are in Full Development

Both Starfield and The Elder Scrolls VI (TESVI) appear to be quite far away still, but ZeniMax published two new job listings for Bethesda Games Studio suggesting that they are entering full development swing. The first job posting is for a gameplay programmer who is expected to push forward with “bleeding-edge RPG development for PC and consoles.” There is nothing quite unique about the listing’s requirements which ask for a degree in computer science or math and familiarity with C++, and nothing suggests that the listing is for TESVI or Starfield specifically.

The second job listing involves a video editor. Just like with the last, there are no unusual requirements that would suggest which project this opening is for. It is a possibility that the video editor is not going to be a part of a game project. Bethesda Games Studio’s games do not commonly use cinematic cutscenes that other games use. Instead Bethesda Games Studio runs the scenes in-game like how Half-Life did, relying more on stripping away some player control and agency instead of opting for a video that breaks the flow of gameplay. Even Fallout’s famous slideshow is not a cinematic video. Instead players are teleported to a normally non-accessible area where the slideshow is played in-game. It is more than likely that this listing is for creating a new trailer for either TESVI or Starfield to reveal in the near future.

Importantly, both listing are specified for Bethesda Games Studio’s Maryland studio, not the Austin studio. This detail makes it very unlikely that the listing will be relevant to Fallout 76 or any side projects as that often falls to the smaller Austin studio, while Maryland develops the main games in their larger franchises. Neither game has a projected release window but Starfield is not expected to be far off in the future while TESVI will be coming later. Both games were first revealed at E3 2018.

Griffin Gilman: Gaming may very well be half of my personality, so it is only natural that I write about them. The best genre is RPGs, while the best game is Nier Automata. That's not an opinion but a matter of facts.
