Nintendo officially announced that an all-new handheld gaming device is to be released this fall.
The 2DS will be released alongside two new Pokemon games (x and Y) and will retail for $130.00. This compares nicely against the 3DS, which currently sells for $170.00.
The 2DS also comes with some great features including the ability to play all 3DS games and it will be backwards compatible with previous DS titles. Furthermore, the 2DS will feature a new layout plan on the actual device. No longer will the product be in the style of a flip phone, but instead will feature a tablet design.
This, however, does not mean that the 2DS marks a movement away from 3D technology for Nintendo. They stand strong by their previous handheld device and will continue to develop content for the 3DS. The plan for Nintendo was to create a more accessible and affordable device in order to reach a wider audience.
The 2DS will hit shelves on October 12th, 2013.
