New God of War Announced Set In Norse Mythology

Not surprising to anyone the new God of War title was a focal point of Sony’s conference at this years E3. The new game features an older Kratos with his young innocent son as they traverse new cold lands. Sony has clearly decided to revitalize the franchise as not a continuation but rather a new story as represented by the fact that the game is not dubbed God of War 4. Take a look at the new older looking Kratos and his son bellow:

The trailer is actually more of a gameplay demo than anything else. It showcases what seems to be a very early mission or even a tutorial of sorts. The trailer starts off with a neat foreshadow of Kratos’s son playing with a troll and a warrior, the climax of the trailer happens to be Kratos and his son tag teaming against a massive troll.

In terms of gameplay it seems the developer has taken pages from The Last of Us as the camera angles and combat system are very similar. This is a refreshing change from past GOW titles. This should make for many interesting and climatic moments in the game.

What makes the trailer truly interesting for keen eyed viewers is a sense of fire versus ice. Fire representing the demons and evil where as Kratos and the stagg represent ice as good and pure. Either way we know that there will be some conflict with norse mythology as the troll mentions valhalla (heaven for warriors in nordic tradition).

The trailer concludes with a dragon flying overhead hinting at a massive conflict on the horizon. Not much was told about the story but as the release comes closer expect Sony to relate more information. Gamers everywhere are excited to see GOW back in action in a new refreshing way. There was no release date given, but expect this within the year or early next year.
