New Game Boy Exclusive, The Shapeshifter, Hits Kickstarter Goal

Exciting news for Game Boy enthusiasts, a new Game Boy exclusive has been announced. Greenboy Games, an indie developer, has started a Kickstarter campaign for its latest Game Boy release, a fantasy adventure game set in the real world. Greenboy Games has created a number of other Game Boy games: Where is My Body? Micro Doctor, Lunar Journey, Submarine 9, and Leo Legend. However, this upcoming game, The Shapeshifter, will be the most ambitious game to date and there is expected to be over three hours of gameplay.

The Shapeshifter follows a boy named Elliot who goes camping with his friends in the mountains. In the middle of the night, he hears a voice that comes from an elf asking for help from the wizard’s spell. The elf gives you the power to transform into any animal you touch, but the power will fade at dawn. There are many animals to strategically choose from to best suit the different environments the game has to offer.

This Kickstarter was funded in twelve hours and has currently reached the first out of three stretch goals. The original game was supposed to only include three chapters: the uncertain mountain, the calm river, and the gold mine. However, with its first stretched goal reached. two more chapters will be added: the ice world and the rockfall. The campaign is also close to reaching its second stretch goal, 30,000 euros, which will include a physical collectors coin in the physical shipments. The last stretch goal, which is 40,000 euros, if reached, will port to NES 8bit. There are still 52 days left in the campaign so it appears likely that the last two stretch goals will be reached.

The Shapeshifter is currently being funded through an ongoing Kickstarter campaign and is expected to be shipped out sometime during the Spring of 2021.
