Dust off the old d20 (or in this case, two) and prepare for a brand new adventure, though this time you’ll be fighting off Super Mutants rather than dragons guarding their treasure. A new officially licensed, pen and paper-style Fallout RPG has been announced and is set for release sometime in 2020. The new game from Modiphius Entertainment, publishers of Fallout: Wasteland Warfare, as well as scores of other tabletop RPGs such as Star Trek Adventures and Achtung! Cthulhu will be a fantastic addition to any Fallout-lovers’ collection.
The new Fallout-themed RPG will feature Modiphius’ 2d20 system. “The 2d20 system is a dynamic, narrative system, designed to produce varied and interesting results from dramatic and action-packed situations,” reads the description on their website. What’s interesting about the 2d20 system is that players are aiming for the lowest rolls possible, as opposed to the highest like in other RPGs such as Dungeons & Dragons. Known tabletop gamer Wil Wheaton, who suffers from the self-proclaimed “Wheaton Dice Curse,” as well as many other low-rolling gamers will feel right at home in the system.
In addition to the brand new game, Modiphius Entertainment has also announced an expansion for the Fallout: Wasteland Warfare tabletop game. Bringing back original game designer James Sheahan, the unnamed expansion is set for release this summer. The original game, complete with a Wasteland setting gameboard, cardboard standees, and miniature figures will be accompanied by “new rules for character creation, creating adventures in the wasteland, and more,” according to the announcement page. The expansion can also be played as stand-alone game by downloading free downloadable cards (as well as having a set of Wasteland Warfare dice).
While the newly announced expansion is exciting for those who already own a copy of the Wasteland Warfare game, those who don’t own a copy yet can get a feel for the game in the video below. Though not the simplest of tabletop games, receiving a complexity score of 3.6 out of 5 from Board Game Geek, gamers with a love for both Fallout and tabletop games will feel right at home in this miniature Wasteland.
