Duke Nukem 3D: 20th Anniversary World Tour is an upcoming HD remaster of Duke Nukem 3D for modern consoles. The remake was announced by Gearbox Software and will be available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC through Steam. Duke Nukem 3D: 20th Anniversary World Tour is going to include some new features beyond just the original game such as, new work by much of the original team that made Duke Nukem 3D.
The original members of the dev team for Duke Nukem 3D working on this remaster include: episode designers Allen Blum III and Richard “Levelord” Gray, original game composer Lee Jackson, and Duke Nukem voice actor, the legendary, Jon St. John. A brand new episode, Episode 5, will be available with the remaster and was designed by Blum III and Gray. This new level will also include newly recorded audio from Jon St. John, reprising his role as the gum chewing ass-kicker. St. John has also re-recorded some of the iconic lines for the game in order to let these immortal lines exist in high fidelity. Episode 5 will also feature a new musical score by Lee Jackson. There will also be an “incinerator” available in Episode 5 to “roast ‘firefly’ enemies.” Duke Nukem 3D will also be getting a cosmetic makeover, with the original 1996 source code and engine being remastered in order to be True 3D and live up to the current gen standards of the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Windows 10. It seems that for this new Episode, Gearbox has decided to add in as many elements as possible to keep it as close to the original Duke Nukem 3D that people loved.
As for the “World Tour” aspect of the game, Duke Nukem faces the global threat of the AWO (Alien World Order), in Episode 5. Duke Nukem needs to take out legions of aliens, including the new aforementioned “firefly” enemies. The 8 new levels in Episode 5 take the player to: Amsterdam, Egypt, Hollywood, London, Moscow, Paris, San Francisco, and The Roman Coliseum.
Duke Nukem 3D: 20th Anniversary World Tour is set to be released October 11th and is currently available for pre-order on the PlayStation store, Microsoft Store, and Steam. It retails for $19.99 USD. The debut trailer for Duke Nukem 3D: Anniversary World Tour can be seen below.
