The 3-player dinosaur hunting and horde survival FPS Second Extinction received its latest trailer today, showing off the game’s exclusive “War Effort” game mode. Along with the trailer, the developers revealed information about Second Extinction’s Early Access release and beta. System Reaction, the studio behind Second Extinction, has announced that the game will be entering Early Access via Steam in September, as opposed to the originally planned beta, as a plan to ensure the game is ready for its official release.
According to the developers, the unique “War Effort” mode is a community-focused game mode that has an effect on the overall game’s meta, world, and challenges available. As more players squad up to defeat the army of mutated dinosaurs, the world and enemies in the game’s world will change and evolve. The mode will also allow players to play in a community-driven environment where the developers will be continuously adding content that develops over the game’s life, such as new enemy types, missions or in-game services. Shown in the trailer, “War Effort” will track player statistics from previous in-game events to determine new degrees of difficulty or challenges for future missions.
With a huge variety of mutated dinosaurs from electric raptors to colossally-sized T-Rexes, players will need to use the game’s wide variety of unique weaponry to advance through the varying areas of the game. Along with different enemy types, players will need to be careful in how they approach different sectors of the game, as certain areas are designated with a Threat Level between 1 and 3. The higher the threat level, the more likely it will be that players will need a party, different weaponry or a higher level to attempt that area. The different areas of the game will also include special “Emergence Events” that function like special horde-mode events or missions that reward players but can shape the dinosaurs and environment that the action is taking place in. Second Extinction will be coming to PC via Early Access in September of this year, with the official Xbox Series X and PC release slated for later in 2021.
