New details and information have been given for Special Ops, one of the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare‘s most beloved game modes. Available on all platforms for when the game launches, Special Ops is reimagined as a collection of expansive, interconnected Operations against a new and encroachig threat. Players will assemble into strike teams of four to execute multi-phased objectives, which together will advance the overarching story of Modern Warfare.
Special Ops will have multiple dynamic experiences that take place on a wide variety of maps and will include 4 player matchmade activities known as Operations. Most Killstreaks like airstrikes and UAVs are accessible in Special Ops as well as vehicles like tanks, helicopters, and ATVs. These give your squad the ability to tackle any Operation in a variety of different ways.
Operations center around interconnected experiences that will take the form of objectives. Each will culminate in the removal or destruction of a key logistical aspect of the Al-Qatala army. More Operations are scheduled to come throughout the post launch seasons.
Missions complement the multi-stage Operations with a more curated experience where your proficiency with specific weapons, killstreaks, and other tools will be tested. Missions can be played either solo or with up to four players and are replayable with a star ranking system that is based on performance.
Players are able to pick from different roles that are specific to Special Ops. These roles include Assault, Recon, Engineer, Demolition, Medic, and Heavy. Each role comes with a Field Upgrade and a class-specific perk. Three types of Killstreaks can be picked before starting an Operation but they have to be acquired from a random location across the map.
Special Ops Survival is an exclusive, additional cooperative mode for the PlayStation 4 that pits 4 players against enemy forces in intense cooperative combat on one of three multiplayer maps. The additional wave-based horde mode is exclusive to PlayStation 4 until October 1, 2020. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare launches on October 25, 2019, for the PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
