The critically acclaimed The Wolf Among Us released in 2013, more than a decade ago. It, alongside the original Telltale’s The Walking Dead helped put the studio on the map and gain recognition, although the original Telltale studios would eventually be shut down due to poor financial performance and overextending itself with numerous popular IP’s, including Minecraft, Batman, and Game of Thrones to name few. The Wolf Among Us 2 would be announced in 2017, but ended up getting cancelled due to the original Telltale Games falling under. The original Telltale studios had much internal strife by the mid-2010’s, supposedly focusing on quantity over quality, filing for assignment in 2018. However, a year later would see a new version of the studio emerge, with many of its IP’s and branding acquired by LCG Entertainment, renaming themselves as “Telltale Games”. This new version of the studio has since made a few new releases since that time, and even recently announced a The Wolf Among Us remaster.
Well, good news for those who were hoping to see a release of the cancelled sequel, as it was re-announced at the recent 2026 Summer Games Fest. Running on Unreal Engine 5, it is reported to be 8 to 12 hours long, and will release as a full game rather than its previous episodic release schedule. Narrative details state that it is continuing Bigby’s story, only this time he is hunted in the search for a killer, and will feature a new companion for Bigby by the name of Faye, among other new characters. According to early impressions, there was missing dialogue choices and voiceover (which was also explained as being due to being an early build), but that the game looks fantastic and isn’t as rigid and dated in terms of animations like the original game was. And going back to the announced remaster of said original game, it is to be updated with improved animation, character models, and lighting, putting it on par with its announced sequel, but no release date has been confirmed for it.
