During the Game Awards, it was revealed that Joker from Persona 5 was going to be the first character pack for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Everyone in the gaming community was very excited because it was so unexpected. Recently, Nintendo revealed Joker’s gameplay and announced that it was going to be released the next day. Everyone who owned a Switch was extremely excited… so excited that it caused the Nintendo eShop to experience some issues.
Joker’s gameplay mechanic focuses on his Persona. He has a meter which when full, allows him to summon Arsene, Joker’s main Persona. Arsene has the ability to help Joker with counters and a glide jump. Joker’s Final Smash is the all-out attack from Persona 5.
Alongside Joker, the trailer also showcased the Mementos stage that changes color depending on the music being played. The stage will also have cameos from the other Phantom Thieves.
The release of Joker also included the release of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate‘s 3.0 update. The update introduced new modes such as the Stage Builder mode and a Video Editor mode.
The Stage Builder mode allows players to add new stage elements such as decorative elements to Stages to different layers. Players are able to build in handheld or TV mode.
Video Editor mode allows players to import videos saved to their Nintendo Switch and edit them on a timeline. Afterward, players can share these videos and stages in a new Shared Content mode. Players will be able to upload and download Mii Fighters, custom stages, upvote creations, and follow creators.
Nintendo also introduced Smash World for the Nintendo Swith Online app. It allows players to view stages and videos without starting up the game. Players are also able to queue up stages to download to have them ready the next time you play Super Smash Bros. Ulimate.
Nintendo was able to fix the eShop situation in a day, but advises that some people may experience some problems still.
