New Content Announced for Disney Infinity 3.0

It has been announced that Disney Infinity will receive new playable characters, game modes, and play sets later this year.  The announcement was made during Disney Infinity Next, a streaming event on the Disney Infinity Website that gave fans a sneak peek at the upcoming content coming to Disney Infinity 3.0.  One of the announcements was how Disney Infinity 3.0 was going to receive continuous support, so fans don’t have to keep buying new starter packs.  Disney Infinity will have one new play set from each of their four main brands, Disney, Pixar, Marvel, and Star Wars.  Also announced were new characters from Disney’s Zootopia, The Jungle Book, and Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War.

From Disney’s Zootopia comes partner’s in crime Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde.  Hopps is very agile in the game, and uses her powerful kicking moves to juggle enemies into the air and send them flying.  Nick Wilde can call up his little animal friend (who wears an elephant costume) for support and can smack enemies around with a giant Popsicle.  I’m sure these moves will make more sense once you see the movie. The Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde figures were released today on March 1st during the event.

Along with some new Disney Characters, we also got a look at one of our most beloved animated bears, Baloo from The Jungle Book.  Based on his design from the original 1967 animated film, Baloo brings his laid back attitude into the Disney Infinity Universe.  Baloo uses a palm tree as a melee weapon and throws fruit as projectiles, as well as using his belly and butt to fight.  I’m glad they used the old design for Baloo, because if they went by the remake it would just look like a regular bear was attacking Disney characters.  No official release for Baloo yet, but it should be around The Jungle Book’s release date of April 15th.

There is a huge amount of stuff that is coming from the Marvel Universe.  The Marvel Battleground play set will have up to four players duke it out as their favorite Marvel hero or villain in 8 different interactive arenas.  From the gameplay shown, it looks a little like Capcom’s Power Stone franchise.  In the Youtube comments, Disney Infinity replied “more information on how 4 characters will be usable at a time will be made available closer to Marvel’s Battleground release date.”  There are also 4 new Marvel figurines coming out including a new Civil War Captain America, Black Panther, Ant-Man, and Vision.

If you’ve been waiting on getting Disney Infinity, now may be the time to get a starter pack for PS4, XBOX ONE, XBOX 360, PS3, and Wii U.  As the best selling toys-to-life game for two years in a row, it’s pretty ingenious what Disney has done with Disney Infinity.  I’m still wondering if a Kingdom Hearts play set is possible.
