Perhaps the most exciting aspect of this new update is the crossplay feature that has been added to Borderlands 3. With this update, players can enable crossplay through a pop-up menu and team up with their friends via online play. Players can now enjoy Borderlands 3 together across all platforms.
Well… that is, almost all platforms.
Good news or bad news first? Good News: An update for Borderlands 3 has been prepared for release that includes full crossplay support across all platforms. Bad News: For certification, we have been required by the publisher to remove crossplay support for PlayStation consoles.

Borderlands 3 players can access crossplay with their friends on the Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PC, Mac, and Stadia. However, Randy Pitchford, the President of Gearbox Software, sent the above Tweet informing fans that for ‘certification’ reasons, Sony’s PlayStation consoles will not be included in the crossplay feature of Borderlands 3. Many people are speculating that this is due to the extra charges that Sony requires in order to have their consoles featured alongside others in crossplay, a fact that was revealed during the trial between Epic and Apple. While players won’t be able to duke it out with their friends online via crossplay on the PlayStation, the PS4 and PS5 are still receiving all other changes involved in this update.
Another major gameplay change added to Borderlands 3 is an increase in the level cap of the game. Player characters used to max out at Level 65, but with this new update, they can go all the way up to Level 72. This level increase comes with more Skill Points to spend, bringing the new total up to 70.
The last major change incorporated into the new update is the modifications to events within Borderlands 3. Thanks to the new update, players will now be able to toggle seasonal events, meaning that they can access them whenever they’d like. Via an option in the main menu, players can select whichever event they’d like to toggle on or off between the Bloody Harvest, Broken Hearts Day, or Revenge of the Cartels seasonal events. This is huge for Borderlands 3 players, as it means that they can access exclusive loot from these events at any time. This feature only applies to seasonal events, not limited-time mini-events.
The crossplay update for Borderlands 3 is live as a free addition for the game as of June 24th, 2021. Players can download it onto their version of Borderlands 3 on the Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Mac, PC, Stadia, PS4, and PS5.
