Netflix Stories was launched under the Netflix Games program in late 2023. It was a mobile game app designed to immerse players in narrative-driven games based on popular Netflix shows and films. The games made players the protagonists in stories inspired by series like Love Is Blind, Virgin River, and Outer Banks, where the choices influence the story.

As a result of Netflix’s new initiative to focus more so on independent strategy games, Netflix has reportedly decided to terminate its Stories initiative. All pre-existing story games, including Love is Blind, Perfect Match and Virgin River, will be kept available to players. As for future Stories titles, the future does not look bright. Netflix appears to be pivoting away from story-based mobile games that can often be tied in with pre-existing Netflix properties, and leaning more toward its original interest in indie, strategy-based games. Netflix recently saw higher results and better feedback with the release of Squid Game Unleashed and GTA titles, both of which gear more towards strategy and action-based gameplay.
