Neon Odyssey, a “Space Opera Trilogy for D&D” according to its trailer description, joined Kickstarter earlier today and in just a few hours it’s already amassed over 4.9 million dollars of funding, and with the kickstarter being open till June 3rd, the sky seems to be the limit.
To go with the Kickstarter, a Cinematic Trailer dropped in collaboration with the Legends of Avantris YouTube Channel and The Midnight who did the song throughout the trailer. The cinematic itself explores a space adventure. With bold colors and a nostalgic artstyle, it centers around a lonely space elf trying to fix his ship and fight his past. When he’s given up, a small robot dog leads him to a man with a metal arm who fixes his ship. He’s invited to join a space team, with a humanoid orc, dinosaur and alien teammates. Together, they work as bounty hunters finding the “WANTED.” Through battling and chasing after people the team bonds, and each character’s abilities are front and center until they reach no 1 on the “BOUNTY BOARD.” As they are celebrating this milestone tragedy strikes.
The space cowboy skeleton man who injured the space elf and causes his nightmares appears at the bar. The elf warns his team and they try to leave but get stopped by a whole army. The space elf and team try to fight against the evil cowboy skeleton and his army but the skeleton man grows into this giant monster and cracks the space crystal that the elf uses for combat. It shatters and shows some of his memories, and pictures of his teammates, as the shards piece back together, symbolically the piece with the space elf alone and sad drifts apart, from the other almost complete crystal. But a copy of the elf with his team members pulls him from tears back to complete the crystal, causing the elf to power up. With his new powers, he and the team defeat the monster and its minions, and return back to bounty hunting. This heartfelt cinematic was an emotional and idea-sparking way to promote a D&D campaign, as well as to launch its kickstarter and it seems fans of the project agree when taking the comment section into consideration.
