Necrozma Gains New Forms, Z-Moves in Pokemon Ultra Sun, Moon

Necrozma, the Prism Pokemon introduced in Pokemon Sun and Moon, is getting two new forms and moves when the Ultra pair of games drop next month.

Details of these forms and moves were revealed earlier today on Nintendo’s website with further clarification on the games’ official site. Necrozma’s new forms are a result of the Pokemon taking over both Solgaleo and Lunala’s bodies, the respective Sun and Moon cover legendaries. Players will soon familiarize themselves with Dusk Mane (Psychic/Steel type) and Dawn Wings (Psychic/Ghost type) Necrozma, which can learn Solgaleo and Lunala’s exclusive moves, Sunsteel Strike and Moongeist Beam.

The Alola region’s legendary trio (Solgaleo, Lunala, Necrozma) also gets new Z-Moves that follow the sun and moon naming convention. With the addition of two Z-Crystals, Solganium Z and Lunalium Z, the Sunne Pokemon may learn Searing Sunraze Smash, while the Moone Pokemon has access to Menacing Moonraze Maelstrom. Besides the respective Pokemon holding the appropriate Z Crystal, they must know their respective solar or lunar-based attack. Necrozma must also follow these requirements but can hold either crystal and Sunsteel Strike or Moongeist Beam to use the new Z-Moves. Both moves ignore the target’s ability.

A third, Necrozma-exclusive move was also revealed, the Psychic type Photon Geyser, which “engulfs the target in a pillar of light” and calculates damage based on the user’s stronger offensive stat (Attack or Special Attack). Necrozma can learn and use this move regardless of its three forms.

An additional feature regarding these powerful moves is the Rotom Dex’s Z-Power, one of the rewards for bonding with the personified Pokedex. The Rotom Dex’s special power grants trainers the ability to use two Z-Moves per battle, breaking the previous limit. Other Pokedex rewards include a variety of boosts that increase experience points, speed up egg hatching and adds more prize money to battles. A trailer showing these and the previously mentioned features can be found below.

Pokemon Ultra Sun and Moon launch Nov. 17 for the 3DS system family.

I imagined that I would someday be creating games, but I've decided video game journalism is my calling.
