NBA 2K24 is Now The Worst Rated Steam Game of All Time

It’s been only a little more than a week since Visual Concepts released the latest iteration of the long running NBA 2K franchise. NBA 2K24 released earlier this month on September 8, 2023, and while it wasn’t exactly expected to do leaps and bound above the previous entry, the response for this year’s version has been less then recpetive to say the least. This is most evident with the PC version on Steam, as it has now done something that, quite frankly, no video game franchise wishes to have on their resume. As of this writing, NBA 2K24‘s ratings hit an all-time new low, making it the worst-rated Steam game of all time.

The previous king of this unwanted thrown belonged to Blizzard Entertainment’s Overwatch 2That title launched via Early Access back in 2022, with the official release coming this past Summer in August. NBA 2K24, in just over a week’s time, managed to usurp Overwatch 2 from that milestone. That is an unprecedented achievement and for all the wrong reasons. The main issue that consumers have with NBA 2K24 are the usual ones from past titles. Microtransactions are ever present, especially with it’s online pay-to-win for players to buy high-level players as long as they can afford it.

Another huge issue is the PC version itself. Common complaints pertain to the fact that the title looks exactly the same as other entries, despite promises of visual upgrades. While the console versions appeared to obtain these improvements, the PC version was left hanging with the usual aesthetics. To top it all off, the PC version also has reports of bugs and glitches throughout, making it almost unplayable. It’s unknown if Visual Concepts will address these glaring problems in the foreseeable future, but for now, and probably for a long while, NBA 2K24 is the undisputed king of worst-rated Steam titles.
