From publisher Headup and developer Mirebound, a creative team composed of ex-blizzard developers has come the announcement of a new science-fiction set puzzle game Causal Loop, as shared by PC Gamer. The title is set for release on PC though does not have a set release date at the current moment.
Causal Loop is set on the alien planet of Tor Ulsat. Gematsu shares that you will assume the role of an Exo-archaeologist Bale, with his colleague Jen. Bale has activated an alien device known as the chronolith and thus shattered reality. Your goal is to uncover the mystery of the Tor and outwit the forces that oppose you before you are lost to the loop forever.
CG Spectrum interviewed Mirebound founders Kai Moosman Daniel Radschun and asked if there was a moment that inspired the development of Causal Loop, Moosman responded “…There was a definitive moment and it was even before we we did the Prototype I was playing around with the idea for a while and we already were planning to do our CG courses. But I said you know if we if we do this if we do the courses there why not just use that time efficiently and just you know basically create something there with the help of them to that we can then probably maybe use and develop into something else so that’s where all of that came from. At the beginning I had no idea about the story I had no ideas about anything the only thing that we really knew at the beginning was that we wanted to be able to have a portal like Puzzler with that specific branching main mechanic. You know the echo thing, that’s it.”
In Causal Loop you can record your actions and engage up to three echoes of your past selves. Causal Loop features 15 chapters and a fully voiced cast. Accessibility features have been added for motion sickness, color blindness, and control mapping.
Causal Loop may well pique the curiosity of fans seeking a true modern puzzle title. With the player’s ability to create echoes and its implementation into puzzles, coupled with the sci-fi setting a wider audience could be reached by the time we reach a release confirmation.
