Namco Accidentally Files Complaint Against Durante Mod

Publisher Bandai Namco filed a Digital Millenium Copyright Act (DMCA) complaint against Dark Souls mod, Durante. The filed complaint, submitted through Dropbox, states that Durante altered original Dark Souls code, which violated Namco’s IP.

Durante was hired to fix Dark Souls many bugs that plagued the games 2012 PC port. It allows players to run the game beyond 720p resolution and a have stable frame rate. Immediately the publisher pulled the latest DSFix (Dark Souls fix) 2.3, from users Dropbox. While the action taken against the mod removed access to the content completely, it shouldn’t effect many players. The reasoning behind the publisher’s complaint probably stems from a leaked debug version of the game, released earlier last week.

The whole ordeal was one big misunderstanding as Durante explained that the DSFix contained original code separate from Namco’s Dark Souls. In a NeoGAF post, an outside agency that was hired to fix the leaked debug version of the game, mistankenly named Durante in the complaint. According to member, Chariot, Volker Reiken from File Defense Service is currently amending the situation. He has written emails to Namco explaining the situation and eliminating Durante’s involvement. This will allow the new patch to be reuploaded into player’s Dropboxes for download.

Namcohas yet to release an official statement or comment on the situation.
