Publisher Noodlecake and developer Hildring Studio have announced that their indie side scrolling hack and slash musketeer adventure Sacre Bleu will be releasing for the Nintendo Switch and PC on April 17.
Sacre Bleu is set in a steampunk version of Revolutionary France. According to Gematsu You will assume the role of a leader of the french Musketeers who is thrown into the prison of la bastille on false charges. You’ll battle your way out of with the assistance of an inventor named Josephine and her invention the steam-propelled-blunderbuss; Animator at Hildrig Studio revealed in an interview with Switchaboo a little about the unique device “The Steam Blaster will propel you in the opposite direction of that which you are pointing. This means that you will fly one way but if you are pointing the blaster at something”
Switchaboo’s Alex Harding asked animator Stein Loetveit what his inspirations are, Stein Loetveit answered “…Looney Tunes is definitely something that I’ll strive for. I’m an animator by trade where I work in films. I’ve been animating on the last three Spiderman movies.” and he also remarked that “I’ve been doing animation for 15 years, but this is my first foray into 2D animation.”
Gameplay consists of utilizing the steam-propelled-blunderbuss device, in bullet-time combat and platforming as you hack-and-slash your way out of the prison. You’ll compete for combat grades based on your proficiency to unlock tougher levels. Enemies and bosses are of the zombie variety and will spew bile at you. You’ll explore the armory, sewers and kitchens as you aim to build an airship to escape la Bastille.
While Hildrig Studios aims to create a fully fledged environment, with its platforming and action elements the push here seems to be on player speed as the game also supports the implementation of LiveSplit, a speedrunning software. Whether this game will satisfy the appetites of players seeking this type of challenge remains to be seen, but well know later on this month.
