MultiVersus Open-Beta Closes Summer 2023

After months of playtesting, the open-beta for MultiVersus is meeting its end. Warner Bros. Games made the announcement on a blog post on the game’s website early Monday afternoon, with Player First Games Co-Founder Tony Huynh thanking players for their participation and feedback. The MultiVersus open-beta will end in June 23, 2023.

“I’m here today on behalf of the entire MultiVersus team to say thank you for your support during our Open Beta,” said Huynh. “We’ve been excited to see the interest and enthusiasm from the community and your feedback has been invaluable. We continue to be humbled by the awards the game has received and excited to see the enjoyment that MultiVersus has brought to players.”

Huynh stated that the team had a “…clearer view” of what they needed to focus on thanks to player feedback, and in order to implement fixes and new content, the MultiVersus beta needed to close. While there weren’t any specifics as to what would be added, Huynh hinted at adding new characters, maps, game modes, an updated netcode and matchmaking improvements. Additionally, Huynh also noted possibly reworking  the game’s progression system and new ways players to connect with friends in-game.

However, the open-beta closing also means that no new updates will be released as Player First Games works on these improvements. In fact, all online modes and features will be down. Luckily, players will have limited offline access to the The Lab (the training room), local matches, including the characters and cosmetic items players have within those modes.

So for those who haven’t downloaded MultiVersus, there is still time. MultiVersus will be temporarily removed from digital storefronts starting April 4, 2023. Players will have until April 4 to download the game. Players who have uninstalled MultiVersus will be able to re-download MultiVersus from their system after on April 4 and after the game is taken offline on June 25, 2023.

As such any purchases made in-game be it Founder’s Packs or Gleamium bundles will not be refundable. That said the Gleamium bundles will be unavailable for purchase on April 4 as well. Thankfully, all player data will eventually be transferred over to the full version of the game, which is slated to release sometime in early 2024. All of this coming after a significant drop in MultiVersus’ player-base do to a stagnation of new content.
