Mortal Kombat 1 Confirms New Characters, DLC & More At Comic-Con

Today, NetherRealm Studios held their Mortal Kombat 1 panel at San Diego Comic-Con. During the event, NetherRealm showcased trailers announcing new characters for the main and Kameo rosters, as well as a first look at the Kombat Pack DLC. With all these new reveals, Mortal Kombat fans have gained new insights into the highly anticipated fighting game.

First, NetherRealm showed off a trailer highlighting the Umgadi, a group of warrior priestesses selected from the first-born daughters of Outworld. This new faction once included Li Mei, who was last playable in Mortal Kombat: Armageddon and a cameo in Mortal Kombat X. Li Mei will return in Mortal Kombat 1 as a main roster fighter alongside Tanya, a current Umgadi. Previously apart of Mortal Kombat X‘s Kombat Pack 1, Tanya is also a returning fighter. Further, iconic Mortal Kombat character Baraka was confirmed as another main roster addition. As for Kameo Fighters, Shokan Prince Goro and Orderrealmer Darrius will be joining this separate roster.

As per Mortal Kombat 1‘s “reimagined” vision of the known Mortal Kombat universe, these characters greatly differ from their previous incarnations. For example, Baraka is now an Outworlder afflicted by the Tarkat disease instead of being a member of the bloodthirsty Tarkatan race. Although Li Mei and Tanya are now associated with the Umgadi, the former is tethered to her former origins of Sun Do. Similarly, Tanya remains loyal to Mileena, heir to Outworld’s throne. Since Mileena also carries Tarkat, Tanya seeks to cover up her condition for the sake of Outworld.

Later, NetherRealm Studios presented a reveal trailer for the Kombat Pack DLC, which comprises of six fully playable fighters and five Kameo Fighters. The Kombat Pack roster includes Omni-Man, Ermac, Peacemaker, Quan Chi, Takeda, and Homelander; all of whom were leaked by Amazon Italy back in May. Considering this correlation, Kombat Pack will likely contain Johnny Cage, Tremor, Khameleon, Mavado, and Ferra as Kameo Fighters. Homelander will be available to play in Spring 2024.

Mortal Kombat 1 launches on September 19th for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and Windows. Current pre-order bonuses include Shang Tsung and closed beta access.
