Morels: The Hunt is a Game About Hunting Mushrooms and Taking Photos

When looking up weird things for bizarre games, you begin to come across certain information that wouldn’t ever be privy to you unless the circumstances rose from it. For instance, the maitake mushroom is known as “hen of the woods”, and there’s another mushroom known as the laetiporus or the “chicken of the woods”. Both are edible, and both apparently taste like chicken. Mushroom talk is weird, but identifying which ones are edible and non-poisonous is part of the adventure (well, a bad and short lived adventure if you choose a poisonous fungus) in the upcoming forestry simulator Morels: The Hunt:

Morels: The Hunt is an entire game based around hunting and gathering mushrooms while exploring the United States countryside. Starting from the Southeast region of the US and are given 100 days for each season to go out and explore. It comes with custom options of music, or just sounds, depending on personalization to each player.

Exploration includes foraging for the different types of mushrooms, photographing specific wildlife and foliage, experiencing all sorts of weather, hunting for different animals, and making sure you have enough bug spray, first aid kits, and poncho’s in your pack to keep you safe and weather-protected.

The game also states how for each of the photographs you take, they will be saved to a scrapbook that you have so you can go back and look at all the previous images you’ve collected. These pictures can also be saved to your PC for any type of use.

What’s even more, is that there is more than one type of game mode that players can experience. Each season lasts 100 days, and at the end of the player’s first season, they can choose to play as an animal for an entirely new experience.

Morels: The Hunt will be available on PC on October 15. No price has been listed yet, but it can currently be Wishlisted on Steam.
