A roguelike character hack-and-slash, from developer SCREEN JUICE and publisher Ubisoft has been announced In a brand new reveal trailer to be launched in Steam’s Early Access Program. Morbid Metal will be releasing for PC sometime this summer.

Morbid Metal takes place in a far-future world shaped in a simulation created by humans to escape climate collapse. You assume the role of a newly created AI whose goal is to become mankind’s next evolutionary step by eliminating other AI and proving you are not only the greatest but the strongest.

Players will be able to shapeshift between four different characters, each with unique movesets, abilities, and special skills. You battle through semi-procedurally generated levels fighting enemies through different biomes. Each level cleared will unlock upgrades. Death results in starting a new run, but permanent upgrades and character unlocks will help players persist across runs, making you progressively stronger.

Morbid Metal aims not just to impress visually but through its gameplay with it’s wide array of selections. In the press release, SCREEN JUICE promises a ‘Rich lore and compelling world of the distant future.’ If this holds true and development can strike a balance between a strong narrative focus with strong gameplay, we may have a noteworthy title on our hands come this summer.
