Yesterday, during PlayStation’s second State of Play broadcast, Monster Hunter: World‘s Iceborne expansion received a new trailer showcasing gameplay and finally had its release date unveiled. Announced last December, this new “massive expansion DLC,” as Capcom describes it, will take players to the Hoarfrost Reach, “a remote part of the New World,” which is a frozen and snowy area.
The story of this new expansion takes place “after the conclusion of the events tied to the end of World with the Elder Crossing phenomena.” Capcom states, “You must have completed the main Monster Hunter: World story through Hunter Rank 16 in order to access the Iceborne story and quests.”
There are also new gameplay mechanics being added with the expansion. There will be a “hefty update” to the Slinger. This update will allow you to use the Slinger while your weapon is drawn. Thus, allowing for new strategies to be formed while you take on new monsters. There will also be something called the Clutch Claw that is “a versatile tool that lets you grapple onto monsters at a moment’s notice.”
For those that want to play the expansion, if they don’t already own Monster Hunter: World, there will be a new physical release of the game titled Monster Hunter: World: Iceborne Master Edition which includes the base game and the Iceborne expansion for $59.99 USD. There will also be a Deluxe version of the Master Edition that includes a steelbook and the “Iceborne Deluxe Kit, which contains a bundle of cosmetic DLC items.” This version will retail for $79.99 USD. For those that already own the base game, however, the Iceborne expansion can be downloaded as DLC for $39.99 USD. There is a Digital Deluxe Edition of the expansion as well that comes with extra cosmetic items and will cost $49.99 USD.
Monster Hunter: World‘s Iceborne expansion is set to release on September 6 on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The expansion currently has no firm release date for PC, but is set to release “this winter.”
