Monster Hunter Wilds Suffers Performance Issues Because of Constant DLC Purchase Checks

This sounds like something straight out of a consumerist dystopia but allegedly it’s true: the less DLC you own the higher the amount of frames you lose when playing Capcom’s Monster Hunter Wilds, as de_Tylmarande posts on Reddit.

This is absolutely crazy, but as the tweet above mentioned, de_Tylmarande, a Reddit user, has discovered that Monster Hunter Wilds is constantly checking your game files to see if you’ve downloaded DLC. These constant checks inevitably cause performance issues with the game and thus, Monster Hunter Wilds receives its infamous performance drops that have plagued the game’s reputation since release. So, if you want a good performance out of Wilds, you’re going to have to buy all the DLC. Now, “selling FPS” does sound like something a developer will do eventually, but this is unintentional on Capcom’s part, and the user has since created a mod that disables these checks and improves Monster Hunter Wilds’ performance.

de_Tylmarande, helped create that mod which you can find on NexusMods to increase Monder Hunter Wilds’ performance. Keep in mind this mod just disables the checks, it doesn’t actually give you the DLCs. de_Tylmarande has a pretty storied history with Capcom at this point as in 2024 during the release of Dragon’s Dogma 2, another game infamously plagued with frame issues, de_Tylmarande also created a workaround for that game’s performance drops.

As the original post states, Capcom are aware of the issue and are now looking into the matter. Hopefully, a quick patch will allow for everyone who doesn’t mod the game or even know about this issue to enjoy a higher quality performance from a game whose playerbase demands high quality. Until then, the mod that de_Tylmarande should suffice. Hopefully issues like this can be avoided in the future, as developers better optimize their games, but it’s always good to know that the community can step in when needed.
