It’s official, Capcom’s newest piece of content for their Monster Hunter franchise is a huge hit. Releasing last week, the expansion Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak has been critically acclaimed, with many reviewers praising the additional hours the content provides, adding an even higher replay value to the already popular Monster Hunter Rise. To cement this newest success, Capcom themselves have revealed an amazing statistic, Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak has now sold more than 2 million units worldwide for both the Switch and PC. However, the even crazier part about this is that the expansion launched on June 30, less than five days ago.

This easily shatters the initial estimates that Capcom had anticipated, and is now arguably one of the most successful post-game releases of 2022. In addition to this astounding achievement, Capcom also revealed that Monster Hunter Rise itself has now sold more than 10 million units since it launches just over a year ago. Let’s not also forget the fact that it was because of Sunbreak that Monster Hunter Rise’s concurrent player base on Steam reached a new peak last weekend when the expansion released. In short, Sunbreak is now being viewed by Capcom as an absolute win for them, and an even bigger win for the Monster Hunter fanbase.
As we’ve mentioned many times, the Monster Hunter franchise had always had a dedicated group of fans that each and every year played the newest entry. However, Capcom made the series even more accessible when they released the unstoppable juggernaut that was Monster Hunter: World, which still sits atop the franchise with more than 21 million units sold worldwide. Only time will tell if Monster Hunter Rise will reach those same heights, but in the end, the result is more amazing content for an all-time classic franchise.
