At long last, the much anticipated Monster Hunter Rise expansion is here. Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak has finally released and so far has been generally well-received by the community. However, the PC fan base of the Monster Hunter side has apparently been frothing at the mouth to get their hands on this one. According to SteamDB, Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak’s first day on the Steam platform peaked at roughly 194,459. That breaks the previous Monster Hunter Rise player base record on Steam by a longshot and yet another impressive milestone for the franchise.
For perspective’s sake, Monster Hunter Rise’s PC launch peaked at roughly 134,262, a 60,000 difference. Before the expansion’s release, Monster Hunter Rise was seeing in the ballpark of 70,000 to 20,000 with a peak and calm period respectively. Clearly, the fans came out in droves to play the title’s newest piece of content on PC, and it shows here with a massive increase of players. We don’t have the numbers for the Nintendo Switch release, but it’s more than likely that a plethora of players also grabbed Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak on release for the system.
It would be interesting to compare and contrast the PC/Switch numbers should Nintendo ever release those statistics, but considering the company’s history on digital numbers, they probably won’t hand that over any time soon. Regardless, this is a huge win for Capcom and the Monster Hunter franchise, which is still going strong after the absolute worldwide juggernaut that was Monster Hunter: World. Monster Hunter Rise has also seen wide degree of success, shipping more than 5 million units in only a little more than a week after it launched in 2021. Now that the expansion is out, those numbers are most likely going to increase exponentially.
Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak is available now for the Nintendo Switch and PC through Steam.
