Longtime United States anime and action figure fans of the long-running franchise Gundam will be pleased to learn that Mobile Suit Gundam: Battle Operation 2 will be available to the West this year. Previously only released in Japan in 2018, Battle Operation 2 allows players to relive their fantasies of having an enormous mech-suit that they can battle with friends against foes inside. What’s more about the second iteration of this series is that players can create their own character inside of their suit, which will adventure across many terrains and across space. Check out the latest trailer that Bandai Namco Entertainment has teased:
Mobile Suit Gundam was popularized by its toys and anime show that was originally aired back in 1979 and evolved into different installments. This would include Mobile Fighter G Gundam, Mobile Suit Gundam Wing, and more all the way up to the more recent Gundam Build Fighters. Battle Operation 2 coming to the West is a big deal for veteran and new gamers alike in the U.S. because of the online competitive aspects that have been added to the genre. Players from around the world can battle it out 6 versus 6 on land, in space, and on foot as infantry.
This second installment improved upon the first title by improving its combat mechanics and adding space elements to the game. Also, players can interact with each other in online lobbies at the Base Camp. Here, preparations can be made before battles at the neutral site where no combat is permitted. Players will be able to upgrade their suits at the camp by earning tokens that have been earned in battle, but these can also be used in a lottery that can award powerful rewards that can be more significant customizations. Additionally, even more types of Mobile Suits, areas, and costumes were added to Battle Operation 2 with world events occurring throughout the year.
While no specific release date for the West has been officially stated, Bandai’s trailer reveals that Mobile Suit Gundam: Battle Operation 2 will arrive for PlayStation 4 owners sometime in 2019.
