Indie developer MijiKai Game Studio have announced their first game, a casual multiplayer MOBA style game titled Heroes of Rune.
Described as “an epic new casual game that combines elements of Multiplayer RPG and MOBA style gameplay,” Heroes of Rune allows players to team up with their pals to go questing, participate in raid challenges, and engage in both PvE and PvP gameplay.
Players who feel prepared for it can take their teams to go head to head with rivals in the MOBA-styled Rune Wars Mode, which, unlike notable games of the subgenre like DOTA, does not feature stiff and robotic gameplay elements like lanes and auto-spawning minions. Instead, players will be free to roam the environment while doing all the usual things you’d expect from a fantasy-based multiplayer RPG; hunting monsters, collecting loot, leveling up, upgrading, and leading minions into battle. Gameplay will involve a mixture of Capture & Defend alongside traditional MOBA goals of destroying enemy structures.
The game boasts a variety of characters to choose from, such as the obligatory barbarian and knight, as well as more interesting ones such as anthropomorphic tigers, frogs and lizards of varying skills and abilities.
Heroes of Rune will presumably be free to play, as it offers the purchasing of in-game currency. However, the developers have emphasized that this will not be a pay-to-win feature, so it can be assumed that only cosmetic items can be purchased instead of gameplay enhancing ones.
An alpha demo of this casual multiplayer RPG can be viewed online, which features a knight running around a variety of environments while casually murdering the local fauna.
Founded in 2013, MijiKai Game Studio is based out of Miami, Florida. Heroes of Rune, which is their first game, was recently nominated for Most Promising Game at Casual Connect San Francisco’s Indie Prize Showcase. More information and updates can be found on its official Facebook page.
