Midnight Souls by Bolshakov Sergey, and publishers Spaghetti Cat, entered Steam Playtesting this September 15th with a riveting Playtest trailer. The trailer description helpfully notes that the newly playtesting game is a “2D pixel-art adventure,” on young love and the exploration of a new town system. The Playtest trailer focuses on everything but the romance aspects of the game, such as the fun shenanigans of the town he travels through, giving a full look at some of the mini games, fights, and cutscenes between the player and the townspeople, as well as some fascinating horror aspects hidden in the town.
The playable character walks along a train that’s his ride to town. When he arrives, he’s greeted by his potential partner, a long haired blonde girl at the train station. He switches to his home where he encounters his seemingly naughty little cat, then on the street, where he fights against two heavily built thugs, who give him some powerful punches, that he mostly defends against. He’s able to scavenge to find items in the town, like coins and other items, as well as communicate with npc’s by choosing between different dialogue choices. Players can buy items from npcs, and do original actions like place a “VHS tape” into a tv. Players can also improve different aspects of the playable character! Players can shake hands, via graphics, ask npcs for items, and there’s a fun drinking mini game with a fellow npc, unfortunately the player drinks too much and passes out to his opponents disdain. In a less cozy twist, the player walks into a dark and creepy lobby with long stairs, he goes down and stands in front of a toilet with the option to gain something from inside, he then moves to a blood and bones filled elevator area, and a monster with a heart head greets him. He’s undoubtedly shocked and runs away shrieking, but unsurprisingly, the monster follows him and the player hides inside an item to avoid dying.
