It’s been a while since 343 Industries has had any major update for Halo: The Master Chief Collection. The now 8 year old set has been an excellent source for fans to revisit the classic Halo entries as well as play the classic multiplayer. In a new post on the Halo Waypoint, 343 Community Writer Alex Wakeford gave an update on the the collection, one of which is now being received with a mixed response. Wakeford revealed that 343 Industries is considering adding microtransactions to Halo: The Master Chief Collection, adding that this potential change is while saying that they wanted to announce this “in the interest of transparency.”
Wakeford explains that they will be ending the current Season-based model and replace it with “Spartan Points.” The process is still the same, players earn in-game points and use them for new cosmetics and other facets, but internally the studio is considering making it a transaction that players can use with real world currency. As of this writing, 343 has not determined whether they would go ahead with this idea, but the incoming rollout will still contain the name change among other updates.
As we already mentioned, the idea of putting in microtransactions alone for an 8 year old collection has stirred up the Halo fan base. This is most evident on the Halo subreddit page, where post has garnered thousand of comments in a very active discussion. 343 has also been mostly busy with Halo: Infinite since it released back in November 2021, making this new addition a very surprising and interesting thing to see. Whether 343 actually goes through with this change remains to be see, but it still raises some eyebrows, especially for those who fully believe in only unlocking such features through playing the game normally.
