Today during the Microsoft E3 press conference, the company announced that they are acquiring one of the well known independent studios in video games, Double Fine Productions. This is the latest of Microsoft’s hefty pursuit of new studios going back to last year. Double Fine is led by the legendary industry veteran Tim Schafer, and the studio has developed many well known games including the cult classic Psychonauts, Broken Age, and the upcoming RAD.
Speaking of Psychonauts, a new trailer for the sequel, Psychonauts 2, was unveiled during the conference that gave fans a first look at gameplay and a few hints at the games story. The story appears to take place not much longer after the end of the first game with newly inducted Psychonaut Raz going on his first official mission.
It appears he is on the hunt for Dr. Loboto, one of the antagonists from the first game. However, the trailer ends with Raz apparently seeing Loboto being confronted by a creepy new female antagonist. That new antagonist appears to be named Maligula, and a mole within the Psychonaut organization is trying to revive her from the dead.
Psychonauts 2 is set to release some time in 2020. You can check out the new Psychonauts 2 trailer below:
