4A Games’ beloved Metro series will finally be making its way to next-generation consoles. In a statement posted today on the official Metro: Last Light website, publisher Deep Silver all but confirmed rumors of a next-gen update, titled Metro: Redux, of both Metro 2033 and its sequel, Metro: Last Light.
Rumors of Redux surfaced when several product images were posted on Italian website Everyeye.it. The images, now removed from the site, show a 2014 release date for the PC, PS4 and Xbox One, and advertise features such as a soundtrack, art cards, limited edition packaging, and Day 1 DLC Token for all four DLC packs for Metro Last Light.
Shortly after these images showed up, Deep Silver confirmed the rumors in a statement titled “A Short Letter to the Metro Fans—Past; Present; and Future…”
“Is Metro Redux real?” the statement reads, “Yes. We never made any secret of 4A’s desire to bring Metro to the latest generation of console hardware. But what you saw leaked was taken from an old, internal planning presentation, containing some nuggets of truth but a lot of hypothetical ideas and place holder material.”

The Metro series has received critical acclaim for its devotion to a highly immersive single player experience. Set in a post-nuclear apocalyptic Russia, the player, a young man named Artyom, must traverse the dangerous tunnels of the Moscow metro system, while making periodic trips to the irradiated surface.
The series was developed by Ukranian studio 4A Games, which consists of many former members of GSC Game World, the studio behind the acclaimed S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series. Shortly after the release of Metro: Last Light, details of the harsh working conditions at the underfunded studio were brought to light, such as the developers having to smuggle computer equipment past corrupt Ukranian customs officials and frequent power outages at their studio.
As far as Metro: Redux goes, Deep Silver says we can expect a proper announcement at the upcoming E3, and that the actual contents of the release will exceed the rumors.
