The fifth installment of the METRO series has an update. Initially revealed in April with an impressive fourteen-minute cinematic showcase, developer 4A Games and publisher Deep Silver have set the bar high for this game.
While the showcase sets the story of the main character the Stranger and his haunted past, the new trailer goes in-depth on the faults of the character Hunter and the gameplay players will experience.
Based on author Dmitry Glukhovsky’s fictional novels, METRO 2039 takes place in a universe where a nuclear war nearly levels Moscow, Russia. Stuck in the only safe place from mutated beings and poisoning, the remaining survivors take shelter in the Metro tunnels. After years have passed, a leader named Hunter brings the survivors together under a regime that rules through less than moral means. This brings a haunted hero out of the wilderness to stop him in the one place he swore he would never go: The Metro.
Players have to make their way through Hunter’s regime, the radioactive terrain, and the horrific mutants that plague the post-apocalyptic world. The trailer highlights stunning controls, displaying multiple weapons and their uses as well as various ways to take down the different enemies. The visuals themselves are also not something to gloss over, this first-person shooter has striking graphics that match the cinematic scenes beautifully.
Deep Silver is promoting METRO 2039 heavily as being the best installment to the franchise yet on their website, a claim that will be held to them by fans of the book and game series.
Experience the most shocking Metro adventure yet in a powerful single-player story that weaves exploration, survival, combat and stealth across a hauntingly beautiful but deadly world with unparalleled immersion.
Although everything looks good enough to purchase now, players have to be patient, as METRO 2039 is currently scheduled for release sometime in February 2027.
